Private Eyes

2Boards Productions
July 21, 2006; closes August 12, 2006

Tricky, cleverly-layered play; directorial challenge. Peppery cast secrets more than a little talent, unevenly playing up broader humor than I’d read into script in lieu of clenched-teeth, truth-and-consequence fear that infidelity twists-and-turns reveal. Even within such choices, stronger connections among characters might’ve raised stakes, providing payoff when conclusion contrasts comedy.

Enjoyable show, fun script, great performances, and well directed. The set is simple, yet well executed, and takes light well (a very intriguing paint job). Lighting was simultaneously dramatic and collegiate, but the last moment is beautiful. Naturalistic performances contrast odd timeline to great effect. 50 words; am I close?

I saw Wit which was right next door---sorry to post about it here but I am surprised it hasn't been mentioned. A wonderful show that is being totally overlooked by theatre goers this summer. I encourage everyone to go and support this budding young company--La Bodega-- They are the kind of company we want here in Portland.

And Vertigo is not? This is like walking into a Blockbuster and asking where the nearest Hollywood Video is...not cool, anon.

Just to clarify: while Theatre Vertigo and Integrity Productions are the primary tenants of the space, Private Eyes is being produced by 2Boards. (Although ensemble member Gary Norman is in the show)

yeah - a little like stealing the spotlight to post abot the show next door without even saying anything about the show the thread is supposed to be about ..

hey anon 7:52: so you saw "Wit" ... That's great; thanks for the tip. But did you see "Private Eyes" yet? 2Boards seems like the kind of company we want here in Portland, too.

Yikes, people, a little defensive! I'm not a mind-reader but I don't think anonymous meant any offense to 2Boards in the shout-out for La Bodega. There is room in this world for many a budding young company, even next door to each other.
