Tribulation Lake. Havoc. Comet dust trapped in jars. Strengths: Playwright’s infusion of extremophile (an organism that harbors secrets to life’s creation and destruction) metaphor into physical and emotional landscapes, creating world that continually teeters between despair, ecstasy, transcendence. Weaknesses: Stock characters and predictable arcs; unearned reversals; and overhasty, pat resolution.
