Shaking the Tree

Review by peanutduck
Edenic visual symbolism strong: Flesh – purity, then defeat, pride; clothing - expulsion into Apartheid’s confines; Frieda’s (Amanda Soden) white skin – incomprehension of Errol’s (Shuhe Hawkins) journey between light and dark. Idea-laden text somewhat obscured by accents (woe untrained ear); emotional transitions jerky. Left acknowledging, white-skinned, I will never wholly understand.

Stunning. Just extraordinary. Don't miss it if you can get there.
I loved this piece. It was brave, in so many ways.
Terrific work, everybody. It was wonderful to hear such fine early writing by Fugard, too.
Dynamite! Get the word out for others to come see this powerful show.
"Left acknowledging...I will never wholly understand."
That's exactly how I feel about your review. Sheesh!
