Traveling all the way from the Czech Republic where she is enjoys a glamorous celebrity in the women's department of the White Swann of Prague, the starlet Eve is making a rare appearance in our professional debut of her favorite play, "Tales of Ordinary Madness" at the CoHo Theater.
Q: Hi, Eve. A: Hello.
Q. You’re a mannequin. A: Clearly.
Q: How did you get your start? A: I worked the windows of the White Swann Department Store in Prague.
Q: What was that like? A: It was boring when I first started, about fifteen years ago, all that monochrome… but when the Socialists left the country, fashion got far more exciting.
Q: What was your favorite outfit to display? A: Before the iron curtain was lifted, it was the Comrade’s One-Piece Bathing Suit. Incredibly flattering. Right before I left the Swann, we did a display where I was privileged to wear a very beautiful red dancing dress and matching shoes, something that would have been quite unacceptable before. It seems so pedestrian now, of course, but it made me want to perform.
Q: So were there any MANnequins in your life that you had to leave behind when you hit the big time? A: There were a few, but everyone pales in comparison to Midge. Mannequins are usually quite repressed.
Q: Tell us about Midge. A: He is what you in America like to call a man. He treated me like a woman even before I was one.
Q: And you’re both here in Portland right now to perform in “Tales of Ordinary Madness” at CoHo Productions? A: Yes. He’s my co-star, my lover, my muse.
Q: This is your first visit to Portland. What do you think? A: I believe all dispossessed mannequins should consider moving here.
Q: So tell us a little about the play. A: It is basically my autobiography, the story of a simple mannequin.
Q: I thought the play centers around the troubles of a slacker named Peter… A: That is a misconception. Peter, the main character, is a mere plot device.
Q: I see. Maybe modesty doesn’t translate. A: I am Czech. We have no time for modesty.
Q: So Eve, what did you do to prepare for your role? A: I like meditation. I go in a corner and stand very still. Sometimes I stare at the ceiling and count the tiles.
Q: Have you enjoyed working with director Stepan Simek? A: He is also Czech. I find this pleasing.
Q: And the rest of the cast? A: My comrades are well versed in the rich history of Czech brewing. As Portland is apparently the micro-brewing capital of the USA, we have been enjoying ourselves over many pints.
Q: So what does the average civilian have to do to get a pint with you? A: I will be in Pioneer Square tomorrow afternoon, signing autographs, and at CoHo Productions for the show Thursday-Sunday until February 23rd. Recite some Kundera for me and we’ll talk.
get real! an interview with a person who is an established member of the theatre community is not the same thing as an interview with a show prop. why not interview the director of the show?
I saw Eve play Big Momma in "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof' at the National Theatre of Sri Lanka back i the 90's. A little stoic for my tastes. I gues that comes from the Eastern European style. Classy lady though.
Eve is so...my God Eve, call me, I'm sorry about the thing on my...you told me it was ok, anyway, on tour it is an island in time and we were surrounded by sharks, we lived, my God how we lived...I'm not going to see your show, too painful, call me in Indiana, I'm ever yours... TNT

New videos will be uploaded this coming week in which you can see Eve: Ride the MAX Meet the tobacconist at Rich's Check out library books Be assaulted by a Christian Youth Group Flirt with the Umbrella Man at Pio Square
Show was fantastic..saw it Friday...performances were great across the board, but those by Brian Allard(Peter) and Dalene Young (Mother) are phenomenal. I did find Eve's performance to be a little stiff...sorry couldn't resist.
This show is a MUST SEE.
Portland has a great theatrical resource here. Check it out.

this cute and all, but what's the point? this isn't a review.
Nope. It's an interview.
Followspot has always done interviews. The last one was Grant Turner.
Any suggestions on interview subjects? Happy to hear them.

*shrug*
I thought it was funny.
I think it's funny too, and in keeping with the absurdist tone of the play (which I am excited to see!)
Though I would also love to see an interview with Stepan Simek.
