Enchanted April

Artists Repertory Theatre
September 14, 2005; closes October 16, 2005

“Underwhelming” said colleagues. Like recent productions elsewhere, certain individual elements had merit, notably supporting actor Jason Maniccia and lead Sarah Lucht (though I couldn’t help but want to snip her awful braid and trash it with ART’s recurring fake flowers). On the whole, mildly appeasing even if not altogether convincing.

Given the absolute rubbish heaved forth lately by the lazy folks at ART - down to woeful casting choices of non-actors in lead roles - non-actors meaning folks who pretend to be actors but really just can't act - and more than safe choices in the season, what were you expecting? Yawn.

Pretty much agree. Somewhat charming, but not all that interesting. Nice costumes, though.

Given the state of the world these days, this seems like such an odd choice of a play. Such ennui seems so out of place.

It could be a statement addressing our current climate, but it's not.

While some of the theatres with more challenging material are struggling to find audiences, Enchanted April at ART has been extended ... Interesting.
