New House Theatre

New stage in town takes on modern, roiling relationship but doesn’t quite hit the stride necessary to make this dark comedy work. Conceptual, site-specific staging was a good first step. However, production also needed both a sense of style as well as shadow. Perhaps a heightened rather than realistic approach.

The play was unique, bringing a sense of personality to the production. The choice of play and use of the home-as-stage inventive and applaudable. An overall enjoyable play with a palpable sense of angst and dry wit. The dichotomy between the characters somewhat severe, leaving one to wonder what made them ever get together in the first place.
