Another good-natured celebration by community of thousands bearing musical gifts. Le Jongleurs were a nice touch elevating sing-alongs with sideshow, story. Sometimes this year’s French Medieval theme seemed odd within Revels traditions; would another Zoom-like play-within-a-play better accommodate both, offering further amusement? Many unfamiliar tunes, but still passed leave-the-theatre-singing test.

The Christmas Revels
Portland Revels
December 3, 2004
Warm and affable, cordial and good-humored Elizabethan celebration of the winter solstice in which musical director Robert Lockwood deserves kudos for finding harmony among more than 50 vocalists and nearly a dozen live musicians. A great sense of community camaraderie that remained true to its simple intent of celebrating tradition.
