The Brain That Wouldn’t Die

Last Rites Productions
July 7, 2006; closes July 29, 2006

Plot thickens as newish company ups game of re-inventing B-movies for stage (see “Manos”). True replica? Dunno; more importantly, spoof seemed comfortable being itself. Tone here just right, speared by Todd Austin Sabel, estimably adding depth to parody. Pacing/energy flatlined toward middle, then revived; stronger conclusion might’ve been more fulfilling.

"Manos" The Hands of Fate

Last Rites Productions
January 27, 2006; closes February 4, 2006

Great band, cool programs, but not enough to hold me for second act, even with promise of surprise ending. B-movie spoof, apparently filled with insider jokes, was teenage take on Rocky floor-show; funnier – and more accessible – if movie screened as scenery. Tighter pace might’ve kept bits from falling to pieces.
