Top marks for use of space. Engaging stories and performances, though the second piece fails to explain enough at the end. Best uses of the word "fuck" and the phrase "alien hip sex" so far this year. Nice to see Triffle and Mouawad onstage together again. Left feeling quite creepy.

“I wish I had OCD. That would explain everything.” Well, maybe not, but again Imago has left me feeling stupefied, perplexed, distanced, and ultimately depressed by what comes across as avant-artsy obfuscation. I’ll admit it: I just don’t get it. Maybe never will. Maybe just not my cup of tea.

Betrayal

Very. Precise. Controlled. And. (Pause.) Evenly. Metered. Claustrophobic to point of holding one’s breath during silences. In some ways, Imago’s stripped stoicism helps focus on what’s said, not how; here mostly succeeding as cogitative exercise. How would it play when emotions are closer to the surface? Helpful sound, film elements.

Hit Me in the Stomach

Music to scenery, costumes to characters, all illustrated to me trashy trailer-park edition of The Sims come to life and left unattended, running on a slower-than-recommended processor: fun at first, then tedious, ultimately futile. Stylistically stunted delivery supposedly meaningful, seemed more a past-prime comedy sketch gimmick, indulgent where once provocative.

If not hell, nearby. More than two intermission-less hours tipping between excruciating tedium and mind-numbing over-inflection that slid into background noise as my mind sheepishly wandered. Others in the audience were, admittedly, attentive, but the production never hooked me into its underworld. Infamous set design better in concept than execution.
