**Extended?**

Summary:

The beauty of Shakespeare’s poetry and some of his most fascinating characters combine with a rollicking Polynesian beat in this sun-drenched fantasy adventure filled with music, dance, and magic. Performed at the Pacific Crest School Theater as part of Blue Monkey’s “Shake Up Shakespeare” program.

Yep, I deleted them all without discretion - a first. I got enough remarks pointing out that I wasn't following my own comment posting guidelines, and, while I didn't agree with all of the crits of my posting choices, many of them were valid. Nearly all comments were mixed - with comments about both the show and some about other aspects. I can't edit posts so these also were deleted entire. Apologies if you felt I deleted your comment unfairly and apologies to those who felt this got out of hand.

So here's a clean slate to discuss the show.

The run has been extended through October 24th so you have one more weekend to judge for yourself.

Blue Monkey has been offering a lot of free tickets on this one (50+ a night) and people have been gobbling them up. PATA's Free Night of Theater has been a huge success I think. Props to Jen Raynak for a well planned and well marketed event (perhaps this could use it's own thread?)

I haven't seen this show but I'm having trouble understanding why the publicist choose this particular production still. The foreground is dominated by (presumably) Prospero's closed, still physique; all we see of (presumably) Ariel's more expressive posture is his closed, tense shoulders; neither actor is looking at anything in particular; the pair's closed/rigid physicality removes meaning from the physical contact; and the top book has prominent library markings on its pages. A brilliant play could contain this generic moment but wouldn't it also contain better brilliant moments that would make better production stills?

FYI: There are multiple PR photos available on the Blue Monkey website. The choice was mine to use this photo for the blog.

This is an awful performance space. Acoustics are dreadful. I couldn't hear anything anyone said for the first 20 minutes or so and only intermittently the rest of the way.
