Teeth of the Sons

The Re-Theatre Instrument
October 2 - 24, 2009

Summary:

The last time Sam saw his brother Jake, they were carousing Brooklyn as one another's ultimate wing man. Years later Sam returns to Brooklyn to find the fun loving Jake has transformed into a studious born-again Jewish scholar. A family meditation on religious themes. A broken family on the brink.

What is this an adaptation of? I can't figure it out.

It's my understanding that this production is a wholly new play rather than an adaptation of an older work, which has been the case with RTI's previous productions.

So then their process: "The company is devoted to a semi-improvisational, semi-scripted method of adapting classic plays with modern dialogue..." is moot?

This show is going to win the 2009-2010 best new play Drammy. One more night to see it.

Personally, rather than calling their process "moot", I would think of it as evolving. As all processes do. Which I think is exciting.

And all questions of process aside, I thought this was a kick ass show -- good writing, really good performers, great use of an intimate space.
