The PAMTAs honor outstanding achievement in the performance of musical theatre in Portland and the surrounding area. The proceedings will be emceed by Oregonian columnist, actress and vocalist Margie Boulé. The PAMTA celebration will include a number of “surprise” performances from some of the area’s most notable theater talent.

This community does not need an awards event with a totally non-transparent judging process. How can anyone feel good about winning a PAMTA? Who the hell is judging ya?
As has been stated repeatedly since last year, the pamtas apparently is made up of non theatre types (not active in the theatre) who mail in their ballots at the end of the season.
if you read the details on the pamta site, you can glean their resoning for this (no politics is the gist)
so it's kinda like the people's choice i guess.
i won one last year and i feel just great about it.
maybe someday you will too.
and WHAT exactly is transparent about the drammies?
the fact that they have no idea what good theatre is? what good acting is?
if that is transparency, then give me "opaqueness"

"The Mission
To recognize outstanding achievements in the performance of musical theatre in Portland and the surrounding area.
The Committee
The members are anonymous, even to one another. This way members cannot be influenced by performers, designers, theatre companies or even each other. Opinions cannot be swayed at meetings because there are none. Voting is done by secret ballot. All members see all productions to the degree that it is humanly possible. Members purchase their tickets. No member of the committee is active in the theatre community.
Qualifications
Committee members must be at least 18 years of age and possess an unbridled enthusiasm for the musical theatre. Candidates are offered positions on the committee if they are judged to be observant, knowledgable, passionate and above all, unbiased.
The Awards
Original glass and metal trophies will be presented at the Delores Winningstad Theatre in the Portland Center for the Performing Arts at 7 pm on June 15th, 2009."
Okay. So Corey chooses these non-theatre people. These non-theatre people just happen to love anything with which Corey is associated, such as Company, Pirates, Blue Monkey and Tin Pan Alley. They don't think much of Les Miz. Hmmmmm. In fact, they don't like anything that "normal folk" like. Like everyone has said, if ya value Corey's opinions, then this event is for you.

By my count, something like 80 noms recognize something like 30 shows, by something like 14 companies, most of which have no association that i know of to said cory.
and really no one has ever said he chooses the committee. all that has ever really been stated is that he funds the event.
some have credited him with the idea/concept, but i am pretty sure that the idea was around for years before someone finally acted on it.
you must really be in love with this guy, you seem obsessed a little bit.
as for your sloppy reporting: not exactly "everyone" has said what you say they said.
in fact, almost no one has said it -- and in fact, since you are anonymous, it was probably YOU.
ouch, the truth hurts sometimes.
and as for "normal" people liking les miz -- i take exception to that, my friend. I consider myself normal and didn't think much of that show.

OK, here is something for you to chew on 2:24 (who was so clearly in les miz, it is kinda cute)
About 98.5% of the posts on "into the woods" are negative.
yet it won a drammy for best show.
it is not even nominated for a pamta (save one actor i think)
so it sure looks as though the pamta committee represents "normal" people of the city, eh?
they seem to have a measure of the pulse of things.
2:24, you need to get over your blind self defeating attacks at something you neither understand nor appreciate.
les miz was ok.
some detractors to be sure (about 15 out of 69 posts)
but most adored it.
of course there is no way to know how many were posted by cast, crew, designers, proucers and friends and family of same.
luckily, pamta says that its committee members are non theatre types.
if i were to choose between believing/trusting this blog and the pamtas, i would not choose this blog.
mostly because folks like you can make sweeping, wildly innacurate and personal agenda fueled remarks, borne of ego and the need for attention.
Wow- thank you to the last poster (3:42)! I just started reading these follow spot posts-after being told by many to avoid it. I have never seen so much negativity and bitterness in a theatre community. I only hope that it is the same few people being this cruel, because I would hate to think it is a representation of the Portland theatre community as a whole. I can't believe the disrespect given to these shows and actors that have been nominated for a PAMTA award (yes, no need to say it- I've already heard your "not nominated but designated" comments). Whatever the opinion is of how this award show and it's nominees came to be- you are still talking about actors, lighting designers, musicians, etc. that put in a lot of work- jut as much as any other show. Is it really fair to discount all of them and the work they put in? Because that is what many of you are doing. Have all of you negative posters even seen all the nominated productions? Doubtful. I congratulate every single person who may win in PAMTA!
I was unable to attend tonight but I wish the nominees the best. The Drammy's were a huge joke and I am hoping the PAMTA's can be something better. Storm Large winning was an insult to the art of theatre.
So she won again tonight and insulted the Pamta's by not evenshowing up. James said she was at church but why show up to the Drammy's and not the Pamta's when you are doing musical theater? How about respecting your peers?
Fun night! Wonderful singers and a so many great performances to honor. PAMTAs should become a tradition in town with all the great musical theater we are able to see. Winningstad fine choice - just the right size. Loved Reece's combo! and Julianne and very cute young singer in pink with gorgeous voice. I Julianne still doing her show? I want to see it.
The girl in pink was Camille Trinka--
a great young talent.
Morgan and Kelly and Margie and Julianne and Sara Catherine all sounded absolutely great.
A class act all the way.

Yay for Erin Shannon.
Pippin was by and large a mess, but the choreography is what made it watchable.
A drammy miss if ever I saw one. Thanks to the PAMTAs for fixing that one!
