The festival actually ends on Monday February 2nd with the PCS PlayGroup offering: Open City. I think there's been some confusion on this in various releases...

Ah, well! If it ends on the 2nd, then I should also say that Theatre Vertigo will be doing a reading of a new play the night of the second - called "Gingerbread House".

Either way, this is going to be an exciting week!

What exactly does "down and dirty" mean?

"Down and dirty" refers to the lunchtime reading series "Down and Dirty at 12:30."  I like to think of it as you never know what to expect.

And it obviously refers to a card dealt face down, frequently prompting the dealer to say something like, "And one down and dirty."

Oooh! Also, we've moved the closing party for the festival to Monday after Open City, which we're technically calling a "festival hangover event." So whether you go to Vertigo's reading or Open City at PCS, come join us for a champagne toast in the lobby to celebrate all that Portland playwrights have accomplished this year!

(who likes to think of "getting down and dirty" as a plan for the day...an aspiration...an urgent item on the to do list of life... one can be too down, of course. but can one ever be too dirty??)
