A Streetcar Named Desire

Artists Repertory Theatre
April 8 - May 18, 2008

Ignore director’s conceit: play filtered through asylum resident Blanche’s mind (i.e., past made present). Idea interests but execution, primarily with padded walls, lighting changes, ever-present doctor, misses point – memories, action, aren’t colored by this madness. Enjoy Frankle’s (Blanche) spun-glass fragility. Matarrese (Stanley) only frightens– no hints of Stella’s colored lights.

I was at the opening night performance and it was incredible. Especially the surprise drama that stopped the play in one of its most dramatic scenes, then took a beat and started back up again as though nothing had happened. Those of us who were there will never forget it!
The rest of you can only wonder if the rumors are true...

I heard about this surprise drama. But have NO idea what happened. Anyway you could let us curious people know? :)

I can only say one thing about this show. Val Landrum is amazing. I have watched her develop over the past couple years, and I think she is the strongest actress in town. Bravo for an amazing performance, and say hello to the drammy that awaits you!

It was all detailed in the Oregonian review on Monday

To be honest, I thought 'Screetcar' was a fine show. However, there were a few problems. The concept was based on a gimmick for Blanche's 'decent into mandess' but didn't work for the rest of the show. Val and the woman who played Blanche were beautiful played.
