After three seasons, 300+ performances, 120,000+ visitors, the role of provocateur (and blogmaster) passes now to frenchglen -- fellow critical fan with opinions to share, questions to ask, new-and-exciting features in the wings. Followspot has been honor, privilege, point of pride. Thank you all for having made this a succesful forum.

Sorry to see you fade, Followspot... but I can certainly understand the load that maintaining a blog like this can represent. I'm sure Frenchie is up to the challenge.

Thanks for the good years! I'm sure you'll still be around...

yeah, followspot...thanks for the thoughtful reviews, the interviews, and the forum to discuss...

you've created an institution to be proud of...

You've done a great job, my friend. And, I hope you are pleased to have initiated a forum that's genuinely valuable to the Portland theater world: it helps us think and debate better than we would without it.

Best,

David Millstone

Why are you retiring?

Thanks for all you comments, guys.

And anon... The blog started as a way to document my stint on the Drammy committee, from which I've also stepped down in order to focus my time on other priorities now that I am no longer a law-student widow ... One "new" project will be a regular theater entry for Just Out beyond capsule reviews (still short, mind you, but more than 50 words of previews, reviews and news starting in July). And in addition to my work at Miracle Theatre, I hope to continue to volunteer through PATA to serve as a convener of local theater marketers in an effort to promote the industry communitywide. That and, oh, maybe grad school in a second language ... :)

All my best,

Just wanted to say that I really appreciate all the articles and interviews you have been posting, Mr. New Followspot Person. The list of upcoming interviewees is very exciting. It seems you're broadening out beyond the scope of your predecessor. Thanks for jumping in feet first.

Thank you for the kind words, anon.

Truth be told, my predecessor – the original followspot – left large shoes to fill.

He single-handedly built this site into what it is today. I just happened to be here at the right time when retirement beckoned to him.

And to think he was considering turning followspot off!

In addition to the established 50 word reviews, I hope to develop the new interview format and offer an interesting piece relating to the Portland or Oregon theatre scene every Monday.

It will take time to plan ahead and fill the calendar, but so far the response has been enthusiastic.

Stay tuned for more fun soon!

Also: I am looking for contributions – particularly in-depth criticism. Do you have an artist, company, trend or something else in Portland theatre you would like to explore?

Send it in!

Errr . . . send it in how? Where?
