aside from the obvious problem of romeo & juliet...again, i'm having a hard time envisioning that particular production being performed outdoors.
This is actually the 2nd time that PAE has done R&J. The first was in 1999, before they added the 2nd "evening" show. It was "traditional" and had a massive set that they reconfigured and recycled over the next few seasons. Monteverde directed.
I'm sorry, I misread the 1st comment. Yes, an "alley" style staging done outdoors would be tricky.
PAE is returning to gorgeous Lovejoy Fountain Park near PSU for this 3 week run Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm beginning July 6th and ending July 21st. Naturally some of the blocking will be adapted to suit the site which is different then Blue Monkey’s original “Runway” stage. Pictures of PAE’s “Othello” staged at the same site 2 years ago will give you some idea of what can be done there: http://www.portlandactors.com/2005bOthelloPhotos.htm
Or visit the actual park nestled at the center of the "super-block" between SW 1st and 4th Avenues and SW Harrison and Lincoln streets.
Oh, and did I mention it's Free! Free! Free!
Seating is first come, first served so if you don't make it there by 7:30 you better bring a lawn chair.
