Pageant (revival)/Triangle Productions
A Christmas Carol/Clackamas Repertory Theatre
Holiday Magic Breakfast/Lakewood Theatre Co.
At Such a Dizzy Height/Do Jump!
Three Years/Treegoda Productions
Biglittlethings/Imago Theatre
Christmas of Swing/Broadway Rose
I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (revival)/Pixie Dust Productions
AmBushed Angels/Broad Arts

A Taffeta Christmas/Public Playhouse
The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)/Oregon Children’s Theatre
Twelfth Night/Slocum House Theatre Co.

Did I miss anything? (Apparently so!) Looks like we’ve learned to not only capitalize on the holidays, but in a diversified way. If audiences were there, then maybe all this activity is a sign. Or, at least, a happy intermezzo between the first and second halves of the theater season.

I don't think Triangle produced "I Love You" this year...

That's right - my mistake - it was Pixie Dust Productions ...

This is based on a preview of "Misalliance" seen on Jan 7.
There is a good reason Shaw is still produced and it's not just that it is royalty free.
The guy is funny. As for this mounting: Upside: The supple lighting, charming costumes and deep casting.
On the downside: The McMansion set, the perfectly dreadful piano music (which abosultely killed the curtain line in Act 2) and the often aimless direction which has actors fingering various props at length for no reason at all.
Back on the upside: The direction is at times sharp and the actor worth the price of admission and the only one with true Shavian concert pitch energy: Darius Pierce. (And he is never over the top)
God bless him and God bless G. B. Shaw.

And P.S. Note to props: Sloe Gin is dark purple in color.

Y'all can talk about Misalliance here and now if you want, but I'll be starting its own thread next week.

Darius Pierce is dreamy. Professionaly. Like, he gets paid for it.

I wish I got paid for being dreamy.

I saw Christmas of Swing at Broadway Rose while visiting Portland. I really enjoyed the evening. The actresses did a superb job of portraying the Andrews Sisters. They were very comfortable in the parts. The singing was great and the choreography seemed genuine to their act. The actors playing Bing and Abbott and Costello were so realistic even though they didn't look anything like them! The place was packed and the audience really ate the show up. Swing music can make a big comeback anytime! Loved seeing the musicians on stage also.

Joe Healy in Pageant makes the most attractive woman that I have ever set eyes on. In fact, the very kind I'd love to come home to every night...
