The Pavilion

Third Rail Repertory Theatre
October 22, 2006; closes November 18, 2006

Fine, perceptive presentation, less transformation than comiseration; no surprises, but rather midlife re-assurance. Workmanlike first-act pleasantries break ice for more intimate, sincere second. Maybe room for ounce more chemistry, delicacy, but overall consistant with Third Rail Rep-utation. Excellent sound, lighting, set designs by Jen Raynak, Kate Morrison, Jeffrey Seats, respectively.

Touching. Funny. Wise. Subdued. A gentle meditation on fate, resilience, and baggage.

Damon Kupper shines as the universe-rending narrator and about five other characters.

Anybody else seen this show? And who is Third Rail?

Who is Third Rail? new to Portland, maybe?

Yes. I am new to Portland. The reviews for this show have been good. Just wondering what this group thinks.

Thid Rail is the epitome of professional. They are golden. They really can do no wrong. They've got such good buzz from winning the top Drammy honor two years in a row that they can poop in a pot on stage and call it a show and get rave reviews. But they'd never do that. They are way better than that and pretty humble and totally appreciative of their reception and success. Top pros who are bashful about their superiority. See everything they do.

Third Rail is the cream of the crop in Portland.

I adore Third Rail but I want to give them room to do wrong and to fail. When they do I will continue to support them. Lets recognize them as devoted, talented professional artists but dont box them in with expectations that will limit thier ability to take risks. Painters and photographers get all kinds of room to explore and make mistakes. We in the performing community need to support each other in our growth as well- even if we cant hide the occasional lame piece of work in the closet or paint over it.

Nice work all around. Engaging without being pushy. Really touching.
