Chris Murray: MegaMan

Interview by Followspot (PDF)
August 2006

Actor Chris Murray leads a cheeky life with a pug named Pancakes and a fiancé studying to be a sex therapist. He makes-and-sells candles, lives-and-breathes video-games, converted his garage into a Tiki Bar and along the way became one of the lucky few who count acting as their day job.

overrated. yawn.

I disagree--I look forward to seeing the range of Mr. Murray can do, MegaMan or otherwise. Go, Chris!

Overrated? Please. Chris spends the last few years working on everything he can get, busts his ass, is always at least good, and sometimes is just great. Overrated by who?

Ok, i admit, video game records are overrated. I mean, who keeps track of that? heh.

Who took that picture? It's amazing! Murray has never looked better...

Never looked better? He's never even looked that good!

Actually, Chris Murray is sexy and talented. And has cute dimples.

Chris is one of the most giving artists I've had the pleasure of knowing. His years of volunteerism at Stark Raving Theatre were key in keeping the company going as long as it did. And his talent as a performer has grown each year because of his unwavering dedication to his love of theatre and acting. In directing him in Neon/Orange this year, I kept thinking - "this is why I love theatre." Chris brings that out of people. I hope you all have the pleasure of working with him - and if you haven't yet - hire him!

"overrated. yawn."

Without stating your identity in such a forum, your opinions mean about as much as a fart during Hurricane Katrina.

Perhaps you should go back to writing racist limericks on public restroom toilet paper dispensers.

That being said, I'd like to see Chris Murray portray either Bubble or Bobble in the near future. That is all.

Thanks for the comments guys, anonymous and otherwise.

i would bet $10 that the overrated comment was ironic, and i'll bet $10 on top of that that Murray got it. But it's sweet of you guys to get so worked up on his behalf.

Anonymous said...

And I'd bet another $10 that "sarcastic" is a better choice of word than "ironic". And ANOTHER $10 that you were ther one that originally posted it.

Wow, someone could really clean up in this forum.

overrated. yawn.

yawn mos def. what's next? the profile of a PCPA janitor?

Anonymous said...

No doubt the PCPA janitor is an actor anyway ... so why not?

I think that was one of the dullest interviews I've ever read. The guy is barely out of college. No wonder he needs a director to tell him what to do and jokes about using alcohol as an acting tool. No insights, no humor, not even anything surprising. Please tell me Chris Murray is better on the stage than he is on the page!

Anonymous said...

I think you missed his point about alcohol. It's not an acting tool -- it's a business tool. In other words, he knows the game you sometimes gotta play, and that's to be where you can be seen and where the deals are made and where networking happens. Not at home waiting for the phone to ring simply because you thought you had a really good audition, but to be out there marketing youself all the time. That's what most free-lancers need to do. And he must be doing something right if he's gotten enough work not to have a pesky day job.

As far as humor goes, he cracks me up.

Yawn and yawn some more. Most of these interviews fall into the who cares department.

With apologies to Chris for hijacking his thread, I'd like to offer the ennui crowd this pitch for a future profile:

If you could ask just one question of one local theatre practitioner, what would you ask of whom?

E-mail me your ideas and I will see if I can get answers and compile them in a future profile or post. Send to followspot@hotmail.com

Anon 10:59: "Most of these interviews fall into the who cares department." So which ones didn't?

And as for Mr. Murray, I think he has done an excellent job of getting to a place where he is doing what he wants full time, which is more than most of us can say, I'd bet. He has a great sense of both comedy and drama, and has that great ability to take a joke too far and still not make you want to hit him. The man crosses more lines of taboo than a lot of people I know. If he ever had a show with Sarah Silverman, I would be first in line.

I would also be first in line to see him in the big screen production of MegaMan or Zelda...

Wouldn't Chris make a fine Vince in "Buried Child"? Someone get on the stick out there!

Awww, shaddup, all of ya. You're just pissed that Followspot hasn't asked you for an interview.

Go back to your data entry jobs and quit surfing the web on company time.

Awww, I kid, I kid. Go back to your unfinished play about how much you hated your stepdad. Or your poetry about that chick that stood you up for the prom. Or the other chick that stood you up for the prom.

You wish you were Chris Murray.

I just don't get the vitriol stuff. With the greatest respect for Tim and his effort to promote dialouge, we're talking about one man's opinion here! I repeat, I often really like his opinion even when I'm on the other end of a less than glowing reaction BUT...his is just a starting point to a diolouge! And yet, what do we get instead? Insults and crap by nameless and faceless voices out in the electronic wilderness.
I met Chris sometime in late 2004. I really liked his work on the Cold Comedy project at SRT. Then I saw Take Me Out and was impressed by Chris'work in a less than perfect play. I stayed around after to tell Chris how much I respected his work in a play that I thoughty wasn't that great - not the production, the play itself. He was very respective to my OPINION and I went on my way.

That Tim choose to feature Chris on Tim's OWN blog is Tim's choice and HIS OPINION. If you think someone else deserves YOUR praise start a blog of your own and praise untill the cows come home.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. You can not critize someone elses effort - you may critize the quality of the effort or the message but shame on you for bitching about someone actually doing something while you hide behind the "anonymous" cloak of darkness!

You have every right to your opinion but what is the purpose of the nastiness and rage?

If you don't like people standing on the sidewalk waving at some one else - start your own parade. If no one follows you can always go home and rail against the world and be cynical - it's easy and takes very little effort. But I guess you are already doing that.

Hey, mission accomplished!

Chris is one of the most generous actors I've ever worked with, and a helluva nice guy. Anyone saying a bad word about most likely doesn't even know him and is trying to stir crap up, which is oh-so truly shocking on the internet of all places!

Anonymous said...

Did you watch that Everclear video online? Can't wait to see what Chris does next.

Anonymous said...

Chris Murray murdered my parents, that's why I'm Batman now

Anonymous said...

Jiminy Crickets! Why the vitriol? It's just disappointing; not surprising, but just disappointing. All yous peoples posting negative comments about Chris either are enraged with jealousy or you are afraid to admit you don't have a tenth of the talent that Mr. Murray has. Personal attacks don't fly here; criticize the piece if you want, its depth, etc. ~ but not the person for godssake! My wife and I have had the opportunity to work with Chris in separate productions and he simply is AWESOME to share the stage with, regardless if he steals focus. Kidding Chris! Plus he has a TIKI Bar, a classic jukebox machine and a sexy fiance. Need one say more?

Anonymous said...

i don't think all of these comments are meant to be taken seriously (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I like Chris. He doesn't call me as often as he could, but you know...

Oh! Chris! If you're reading this, I want to get an Xbox 360, but I think they will go on sale (or be bundled with other stuff) as we get closer to Christmas. BUT, the Playstation 3 is coming out near Christmas, as well! Should I say, "forget it, 360" and just get a PS3, since I'm waiting anyways? Or should I get a 360, since the PS3 is going to cost SO much anyways and I may not be able to afford it near Christmas? Or is the 360 not even going on sale?? And have you tried this Gamefly thing? It's like Netflix, but for video games. I like it, but it takes a very long time to get the games. From the time you drop an old game in the mailbox to the time you receive a new game, you could be waiting like 10 days! So, then you have to average out how many games you are actually getting a month, and what the cost of renting those games would be individually, taking into account late fees, because Gamefly doesn't have late fees, of course - it's like Netflix, but for video games...

Does anyone happen to have information concenring Chris' next performance - what, when, where???
