Hand2Mouth Theatre
March 9, 2006; closes March 26, 2006
Intent evident but motivation unrevealed, result puzzling. Kinda punch-drunk drama club missing raw sophistication of recent H2M creations. Maybe bigger spectacle to match scale of immense storyboard? Skeletal-staging fun; some caricatures boorish; banana-sucking climax jumped shark. Bottom line: To what end? Nevertheless, Portland repertoire needs this type of storytelling exploration.

You just don't get it. Loosen up a little, will ya?
"You just don't get it." That's funny. A friend was just commenting last night that "You don't get it" is about the feeblest response to criticism or debate that a person could muster. The reviewer enjoyed the show, appreciated the tactics, but had reservations about a few moments. It's a favorable review.
I've always thought "You just didn't get it" was a nice way of saying "you're too stupid for our high-brow art."
However, I think it can also mean "we didn't make our intentions clear enough for you to understand it."
As for the "loosen up" part, well, that is still open for debate...

RE: "loosen up"
Maybe the point is that sometimes we see things with too many preconceptions....
Hey, I just want to say, let's not assume anonymous #1 is someone involved with the production. I am, and I for one value feedback about our show, whatever it may be.
Horatio -- All audience members come to a show with some preconception of something or another... The challenge then is for theatre artists to deal with it -- embrace them or break them or whatever.
