I Am A Superhero

Fever Theater
December 1, 2005; closes December 18, 2005

Cliplights, couches, MaryAnne curtains represent epitome of Portland DIY theater. Like its hero, multimedia presentation’s superpowers had no negative consequences — but that’s not the same as having had positive effect on playful premise. A number of perceptive notions, but script meanders; movement/media only sporadically synergetic; speeches swallowed instead of savored.

I actually thought this show was quite interesting. Their use of design and music and multimedia was well integrated. The piece was about 40 minutes too long and a bit too self-referential, but a lot of the material was engaging and offered thoughtful glimpses into partnership, brotherhood, expectations and alter egos. I thought this was a good step forward for Fever, and I'm interested to see where they go from here.

40 minutes too long? wasn't it only like 60 minutes to begin with?

The piece was an hour and forty minutes long, not sixty. I was trying to say that it would have been stronger if they'd edited it down to an hour.

Maybe Followspot could've cut it to 50 words.
