Portland Opera

Nice, but unsatiating. ‘Presented’ rather than ‘felt.’ Pleasant singing, but dialogue too over-the-top, music too reserved for raw nerves oppressed by heat. Missed moments, connections, motivations. Production filled space, but didn’t fill the story. Give this show back to musical theatre for palpable grit, less ornamentation--where supertitles are unnecessary.
